With our Tasting Room having reopened in June 2023, we thought it would be great to sit down with our Head Storyteller and find out who he is and what makes him tick.

Tristan Lackay is our Head Storyteller or Wine Educator at the Indaba Tasting Room. We prefer the term Storyteller rather than Wine Educator as we believe that your wine tasting is about listening to an incredible story of how a delicious wine is created and the beauty it brings when it is sipped on.

We put together a few questions for Tristan to answer to find out more about him.

• How long have you been working at the Tasting Room? I've worked here since February 2022. I have learnt so much and I am still learning more and more each day, growing my passion in the process.
  
• Where are you from? I grew up in the West Rand and not Cape Town as many people think. I'm a born-and-bred Joburg boy and I love it. 
• Which wine is your favourite? My favourite wine would either be a good wooded Chardonnay on a nice spring day or a good Bordeaux or Rhone-style red blend during the winter.  

• What are your hobbies? My hobbies would be anything involving art, I have a very creative mind which helps me thrive at my job (painting/ drawing, singing, playing instruments, dancing, acting and photography).
• Tell us your best wine tip! My personal wine tip is don't be afraid to ask questions and learn something new, there are no wrong answers or dumb questions in wine. Also, never forget to let your wine breathe! It is the best way to bring out all the beautiful notes.
• What is your favourite feature of the beautiful new-look Tasting Room? That's a really hard question, there's just so much to love If I had to choose one specific thing it would have to be the energy and the vibe surrounding the Tasting Room.
